For district ESL committee members

Why are we needed?

ESL coordinators are needed for two major reasons. First, our students who are learning English need someone to watch over them. They need a teacher that understands what they are going through and what they need in order to succeed academically. Without us these kids would have no shepherd. Second, most teachers are not trained on how to teach English learners. They need someone who they know and trust to turn to. We are specialists and teachers and administrators need our valuable input. We make a meaningful difference in the lives and future success of our many English learning students.

What do we do?

District ESL Coordinator

School ESL Coordinator

ESL Paraeducators

Secretaries/Registrars

How can we do it all?

The work we do as an ESL coordinator can some times seem overwhelming. Remind your site administrator that the position is time consuming; you should not have to participate on other time consuming committees.

Where can we get help?

Never forget that there are more than a dozen other ESL coordinators in the district. Many of us have had years of experience and are willing to give advice or offer assistance where needed. Especially during QIA and UALPA testing, coordinators need to stick together and help each other. Ask the district ESL coordinator or a coordinator you know well. There is always someone willing to help.
